Project Hope ( ) is a public welfare undertaking that attracts the most extensive participation and has the greatest influence in China. It has raised over RMB 3.2 billion and supported more than 2.9 million rural primary school children to continue their studies. Project Hope ( ) started in October 30, 1989 by China Youth Development Foundation. JianDe Hangzhou GuangYu Hope Elementary School ( ) was founded by a real estate company in Hangzhou ( ) in 1995 and the whole campus was rebuilt in 1997.

The school has 1076 students and 52 full time teachers plus 12 part time teachers. Almost every classroom is 50 students.

The school has many Stay and Watch Home Children ( ) who stay with their grandparents. Their parents are away from home to plant strawberry all over the country. They may come home to visit their kids every 6 months. It is a social problem in China; therefore, teachers become more like their parents to educate them to learn how to survive.
